Healing with Gong Energy

Healing with sound is not new it has been around for centuries and used for healing and re-balancing the body. It is used to soothe, relax, de-stress and boost the body into promoting its own healing process.

Long ago the ancient Egyptians and Greeks realised the remarkable healing power of sound, and often composed and performed music with the purpose of healing.

Everything on the planet has an energy, each vibrating at its own frequency. Even dense inanimate objects like rocks and look like solid matter, but are in fact forms of energy vibrating at lower frequencies. Whereas light vibrates at a higher frequency. Everything in the universe is vibrating energy.

GONG SPACE is a very powerful therapeutic space, still, silent and peaceful – a haven of tranquillity in a very busy world. Gongs spread their healing energy wherever they are.

Our bodies are vibrating energy forms. As mentioned in a previous post our bodies consist of around 70% water, which is an excellent conductor for sound. When there is an imbalance within the body or stuck energy the sounds of the gongs will stimulate the cells encouraging them to vibrate and tune them up thus assisting the healing process.

POWER OF INTENTION – When playing the gongs, as with any form of healing, set your intention for the highest good of the recipient[s] and all, including yourself. It is important to have the right intention when playing an instrument of great power like the gong. These powerful gong sounds are used for healing on all levels, stress relief, relaxation, meditation and spiritual growth.

HOW DOES GONG HEALING WORK?  It affects the nervous system, sending the vibration into the body via the ears and the skin.  Using gongs as a therapy is often referred to as having a Gong Bath. It’s a cleansing process for the subconscious mind.  People like it because it is an easy effortless therapy, one where they can just relax, switch off to the world and let the sounds do their work.

The Gong is good because it helps to bridge the gap from the physical to the meditative state. Thus allowing the recipient complete relaxation in a safe environment.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?  The Gong heals the parasympathetic nervous system – the resting, digesting nervous system, which in todays modern age is not nurtured enough.   Many people find this treatment so beneficial that they come back again an again to Gong meditations.  Some say it helps them handle their daily lives better and in a more relaxed manner.   It trains the nervous system to easily be able to get back into the space of peace.

RECEIVING A GONG BATH – This can be given with the recipient lying down in a comfortable position [fully clothed] or sitting on a chair whichever is most comfortable to the individual.  If you prefer to lie down it is wise to take a pillow and possibly a blanket with you just in case the Therapist does not have sufficient for all who may attend a group session.

All you have to do is lie or sit with your eyes closed and in a relaxed state.  The gong is then played softly initially,  increasing in volume as the session progresses.  {The volume never gets unbearable as these are therapeutic sessions}.  Alpha brainwave state is achieved very quickly and is followed by the Theta brainwave state.   The sounds become softer again when winding down the session.

  • Alpha brainwaves – A state of daydreaming, imagination and associative thinking.
  • Theta brainwaves – Occur during dreaming sleep or REM [rapid eye movement] sleep, but can also occur during deep meditation.

After a Gong Bath it is wise to drink plenty of water and rest as much as possible as the Gong is an amazing and powerful instrument for healing work.
